Senior Solutions Architect, Scotland, UK
Job type: Permanent, full time
Description
Fios Genomics is looking for a full-time Senior Solutions Architect to manage and develop our IT infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join a medium-sized bioinformatics company based in Edinburgh with global reach. We are currently building a reputation for excellence for bespoke bioinformatics analysis and have been growing consistently over the past years. The role has flexible remote options within Scotland and poses a fantastic opportunity to join a company with an exciting vision. The successful candidate will play a meaningful part in supporting our Operations team who perform analyses of large biomedical datasets to generate web-based reports for clients.
This is a hands-on role in which you will maintain and develop our IT infrastructure (on-premise/colocation and AWS) and manage the internal IT team (currently 1 other). This includes maintaining and monitoring the existing systems (e.g. ensure uptime of our servers used for bioinformatics analysis, availability of sufficient storage, maintaining our information security programme) but also designing and implementing future developments in a formalised IT strategy and roadmap.
You will possess a high degree of up to date technical skill, have experience of managing and motivating staff, have a collaborative approach to problem solving, and understand the importance of careful planning and good documentation. We are a UK wide team with many working remotely, so good communication skills and independent working are very important to us.
The successful candidate should be adept with AWS, Terraform, VMware and Linux administration (Ubuntu/Debian based) and have programming experience in one or more suitable languages (e.g. Bash or Python). Those with a background in consultancy will be highly regarded. Experience of Windows environments is desirable as would experience with database administration (MySQL), and versioning (Git).
As well as offering an exciting position within our dynamic team, we are committed to supporting the personal development of our employees, providing a supportive environment where you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of development areas and enhance your skills.
Skills & Experience
Requirements:
- At least 3 years of demonstrable hands on AWS experience.
- Automation and configuration management with e.g. Ansible and Terraform.
- Programming experience in one or more suitable languages (e.g. Bash, Python).
- Evidence of working with and administering Linux systems, ideally Debian/Ubuntu based.
- Experience with containerised environments, e.g. Docker.
- Experience of working with virtual machines, in particular with VMware.
- Familiarity with information security frameworks.
Desirable skills:
- Certified AWS Solutions Architect Professional or higher.
- Previous experience of working in a consultancy role.
- Experience with MySQL/MariaDb, design, installation and operation.
- CI/CD pipelines with GitLab.
- Understanding of networking concepts such as firewalls, public and private networks.
- Version control system tools, e.g. Git.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. Zabbix, Prometheus).
What we offer to you
- A multifaceted job with a high degree of responsibility and a broad spectrum of opportunities.
- The chance to help our team analyse exciting data from globally diverse clients.
- A friendly work environment built on collaboration, flexibility and respect.
- Varied and challenging work to help you grow your technical skill set.
