Members of the Operations Team recently attended the VISICORT plenary meeting in Berlin. There are lots of exciting developments in the pipeline along the VISICORT project, with plans underway for a phase 1b clinical trial to start at Charité Research Organisation. There will also be new data for Fios to analyse with more to come in the future.
The VISICORT consortium partners are now looking into a plan for dissemination of information, exploring different ways to highlight the knowledge gained from the project.
Fios has been a part of the VISICORT consortium since it was launched in 2014, and the project is due to finish in March 2019. Fios’ role in VISICORT is to monitor the samples’ quality control as well as provide analysis of experimental data, including both data integration and interpretation.
VISICORT
Formed by 13 partners, VISICORT research aims to improve the success rate of corneal transplants. The multi-disciplinary project will complete the first systematic immune profiling of corneal transplantation recipients, to aid better understanding of adverse immune reactions to the transplants. This will also lead to the development of biomarker-based surveillance strategies for post-transplant care in patients.
The response of the immune system is the most complex barrier for long-term transplantation success. Up to 30% of patients who receive a corneal transplant suffer from adverse immune reactions. VISICORT aims to profile the immune responses that are associated with adverse tissue transplant outcomes, allowing for the development of new approaches for prevention or early diagnosis of adverse reactions. VISICORT partners from five leading transplant centres have generated multi-platform profiling data of over 700 corneal transplant recipients, with the aim of improving corneal transplant success.
