Fios Genomics in 2018 – What We Achieved

Looking Back On What We’ve Achieved In 2018

Season’s greetings from everyone at Fios Genomics! We hope you have a great holiday season.

Looking back in 2018, we’ve had a busy year. Fios turned 10 in April and we’re looking forward to many more years!

Location, Location, Location

We’ve visited the US, UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium and also Austria this year. With over 300 face-to-face meetings in 2018, if you’d like to arrange to meet us in the new year, get in touch now – we’d love to meet with you!

We have had over 70 projects this year; RNA-Seq and gene expression were the two largest areas of interest for our clients, but we also helped with methylation studies, data mining as well as data from microarrays.

Conferences

When we weren’t busy with meetings, conferences were also a highlight of our calendar (and the insights and reports from key ones can be found here).

In 2018, we were at:

Looking forward into 2019, you’ll find us either exhibiting at or attending conferences including:

  • Festival of Genomics in London, England in January.
  • 14th Annual Biomarkers Congress in Manchester, England in February.
  • Genomics Medicine Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland in May.
  • 4th Annual Biomarkers and Precision Medicine Conference in San Diego, California in October.

Publications

So far in 2018, four papers have been published with Fios on the data analysis side, including one in Nature.

Parallel evolution and adaptation to environmental factors in a marine flatfish: Implications for fisheries and aquaculture management of the turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)

Species-specific regulation of angiogenesis by glucocorticoids reveals contrasting effects on inflammatory and angiogenic pathways

Survival prediction in mesothelioma using a scalable Lasso regression model: instructions for use and initial performance using clinical predictors

TGFβ attenuates tumour response to PD-L1 blockade by contributing to exclusion of T cells

Our data analysis efforts were also mentioned  posters that were presented at a number of conferences. To know more, sign up to our newsletter (at the bottom of this page) and receive links to posters as well as case studies created featuring our work.

Team Growth

Such an exciting year! The team at Fios has grown – with 8 new starts this year (3 on the business development team and 5 on the operations team) and we look forward to adding more in January as well.

Achievements To Shout About

We were included in ‘Addressing Global Challenges’ – a programme created by the Royal Society of Biology in partnership with ITN Productions. It aims to highlight how the life sciences sector relates to worldwide challenges, and the programme features key industry interviews and news-style reports from a range of organisations.

As we highlighted earlier, work we completed was part of a paper published in Nature. Two members of the Fios team were authors on the paper which highlighted how blocking TGFβ and administering anti-PD-L1 antibodies caused tumour regression in mouse models.

We’re proud to be part of the sector and keen to help even more clients get the most out of their data in 2019 – Happy New Year!
