14th Annual Biomarkers Congress Highlights

Our third year of exhibiting at and attending the Annual Biomarkers Congress in Manchester was again a success. With nearly 80 talks over 4 streams, it was a great two days of talks and meetings.

Talk from our Technical Director

Max Bylesjo’s talk, as part of Stream 1 on the first day, focused on three main areas:

  • Biomarker discovery and validation as key focus areas in medical research using omics data,
  • Appropriate selection and use of computational tools and methodologies to identify markers that work in practice,
  • Case studies outlining how Fios can provide expertise in this area.

Max Bylesjo, Fios' Technical Director, gives a talk at the Annual Biomarkers Congress 2019 in Manchester, England.

Conference Highlights

As in previous years, Fios sponsored the event and had a booth in the exhibition area. We had a large number of meetings, and it was great to talk through how Fios can add value to research in many ways through our bioinformatics capabilities.

We enjoyed attending talks from all four of the streams on offer and are already looking forward to future Biomarkers conferences this year and beyond!

In particular, we enjoyed the second day talks from Biovica and UCB as well as the roundtable discussion from BerGenBio.

Mattias Bergqvist, Vice President Clinical Development at Biovica, spoke on ‘Liquid Biomarkers In Oncology Drug Development And Clinical Validation’. His talk looked into the key things that biomarkers can aid with in the drug development process and how they can add value to the evaluation process for therapies. John Silva’s talk, Senior Principal Scientist at UCB, titled ‘Efficient Mining Of The B Cell Repertoire – Finding Rare Antibodies With Desirable Characteristics’, showcased UCB’s antibody discovery technology combines a number of methods to identify single, antigen-specific cells.

The roundtable discussions, which opened Day Two of the conference, covered a range of biomarker topics. Bob Holt, Director of Biomarkers & Companion Diagnostics at BerGenBio, covered the development in disease classification and treatments through biomarker usage.
